A Successful Spine Surgery Journey at Artemis Hospital, Gurugram

A 57-year-old male patient from Mauritius travelled to India to seek specialised spine care after experiencing significant, progressively worsening spinal symptoms. He presented to the Department of Spine Surgery at Artemis Hospital, Gurugram, with severe neck pain, mid- and lower-back pain, and radiating pain in both lower limbs, more pronounced on the right. He also had weakness in both lower limbs. As his symptoms progressed, he found it increasingly difficult to stand for more than five minutes or walk more than a few metres.

Detailed Evaluation and Diagnosis

Following a thorough clinical evaluation, the patient was diagnosed with fractures involving the D8, D10, and D11 vertebrae. Vertebral fractures can affect spinal stability and, depending on their location and severity, may be associated with significant pain and neurological symptoms. The patient’s medical history was also significant for non-Hodgkin lymphoma, diagnosed in May 2026. His clinical condition required careful specialist assessment and an individualised treatment approach.

Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery

After evaluating his condition, the spine surgery team headed by Dr Hitesh Garg recommended minimally invasive dorsal fixation from D7 to D12 to stabilise the affected spinal segments.

The procedure was successfully performed on 13 June 2026 at Artemis Hospital. Minimally invasive spinal fixation aims to stabilise the spine while using a less invasive surgical approach when clinically appropriate.

Smooth Postoperative Recovery

Following surgery, the patient’s postoperative recovery was smooth, and he was discharged on 15 June 2026, two days after the procedure.

His journey highlights the importance of timely specialist evaluation, accurate diagnosis, individualised treatment planning, and appropriate postoperative care for patients with vertebral fractures and significant spinal symptoms.

For international patients seeking spine treatment in India, comprehensive evaluation by an experienced spine team can help determine the most appropriate treatment based on the individual’s condition.
